How To Sell More on eBay – The 16 Times Rule – 2023
Hi guys, I’m doing a series of quick videos about how to sell more on eBay. This week’s video is the 16 times rule. Anybody new this channel. My name’s Neil Waterhouse. I’ve been selling online full-time forever, 25 years. I’m the author of a million-dollar eBay business from home and create a drop sheet formula.
So the way to get more sales on eBay than your competitors is to optimize your listings so they appear higher in the search results than your competitors. Being high in the search results. The listings get more views and more views equals more sales. And the good news is over 95% of all listings on eBay are not fully optimized and you only need to know one more optimization technique than your competitor to beat them.
So this week’s VO is a 16-time rule. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that every one of your eBay listings willincrease it by a factor of 16. That’s not the point. The 16 times rule is all about how to take an on-optimized eBay listing and increase its sales by a factor of 16 to sell more on eBay. The two biggest needle movers are one obviously list more proven items, and two optimize all existing listings that you have live on eBay right now. If you’re not optimizing your eBay listings you’re leaving money on the table.
The 16 times rule is all about optimizing listings to get them to the top of the eBay search results. eBay’s search results are powered by eBay search engine that’s called Gini. The 16 times rule is about optimizing the four different parts of your eBay listings to rank higher with Gini. If you miss the video I put out about how eBay’s Gini search engine works I put a link at the end of this video. The first part of the 16 times rule is the title of your listing.
EBay these days allows 80 characters for your title. Back in the old days,it was 55 characters. Every extra relevant keyword that you add to your title increases the amount of traffic to your eBay listing. If you add more relevant keywords to your title you get more traffic and more views to that listing. You can very often over double the amount of traffic to a non-optimized debate listing by adding more relevant keywords. For example, in this listing many relevant keywords have been added like office chair, seatleather, et cetera.
These relevant keywords bring in more traffic and more views. I’m not going to go into how to find more relevant keywords in this week’s video,as I’ve done that before in a previous week’s video, but if you miss that video I’ll put a link at the end of this video. So the first part of the 16 times rule is to optimize the title of the listing to potentially double the traffic and views to that listing. The second part of the 16 times rule is to optimize the gallery image. The gallery image is the first photo that you upload to eBay when you’re listing an item.
It’s also known as image one. The gallery image or image one is the image that also appears when somebody does a search on eBay for any item. As an example, if I do a search on eBay for say, lapel mics in the eBay search results up comes the gallery image for every listing that appears in the search results.
By optimizing the gallery image you can radically improve your click-through rate. I’ve seen click-through rates go from less than half a percent to over 4%, which is an 800% increase. But for the sake of the 16 times rule let’s just say double the click-through rate. So now you have twice as many clicks from your optimized title, twice the click-through rate from your gallery image, which means you have four times as many people clicking into your listing.
That means you now have four times as many people seeing your eBay listing description. Again, I’m not going to go into how to optimize gallery images in this video as I’ve done it before ina previous week’s video. But if you missed that video I also put a link at the end of this video. So now that you have four times more people clicking into your eBay listings, this leads to the third part of the 16 times rule and that is your eBay listing template.
An eBay listing templateis simply a listing template that makes your eBay listings look professional and gives you buyers a feeling of trust and confidence. These days. You can get professional eBay listing templates created from $25 and then you use the same listing template for all your listings where you have 10 listings or 10,000 listings. You can just use that one eBay listing template.
But note that an eBay listing template is not the same as an eBay store template. An eBay listing template can dramatically improve sales conversions. And again, if we just use a factor of two we now have twice the traffic from optimizing the title twice as many clicks from optimizing the gallery image. So that’s two times two equals four and now twice the sales conversions from optimize the listing descriptions or eBay listing template.
So now we have two times two equals four times two equals eight, and now the magic happens. eBay recognizes your listing is selling more than Un optimized competitors and eBay puts your listing higher up. The search results. We call this the jet stream. eBay favors listings that arehigh sales conversion rate in the industry. This is called the impression-to-sale ratio.
An impression is everytime any listing appears in the eBay search results, a sale of course is every time the listing getsa sale, fall else is equal between your listing and your competitor’s listing. The listing that gets the lowest amount of impressions but gets the highest amount of sales goes to the top of the eBay best-match search results. This impression-to-sale ratio is just like how supermarkets work.
Supermarkets put items next to the checkout that have the highest impression to sale ratio. Oh, a can of Coca-Cola orChewing Gum or a Kit Katt. The supermarkets know and they’ve got the data to show it that these items have the highest chance of selling every time somebody walks past ’em. I have an impression eBayis exactly the same. Casini eBay search engine favors listings with the highest impression to sale ratio.
So this is where the magic happens because your listing has a good impression to sale ratio, eBay bump share listing higher upin the search results. Now the listing gets a to more traffic, but for the sake of math let’s just say, or let’s just use a factor of two Or twice as much traffic. So the listing is getting twice as much traffic from your title, twice the click-through rate from the gallery image, twice the conversion rate from the description and eBay listing template.
And now twice as many impressions of views ’cause eBay bump a listing higher up the search results. So now we have two times two is four four times two is eight. Eight times two is 16, and that’s the 16 times rule.
