eBay and Free Shipping

I have been getting a lot of questions lately about shipping with eBay, in particular Free shipping.  Lately in the eBay blogs, a lot of people are complaining eBay is forcing sellers to offer free shipping however although this is true, it is the buyers on eBay who want and demand free shipping. We have tested many times selling an item with and without free shipping and customers on average will pay MORE for free shipping.  Let me explain... Let’s say you are selling an item for $50 and it costs you $20.  Shipping costs let’s say $10 Continue Reading

Should I sell big items or small items on eBay?

Have you noticed you can buy something on eBay the size of an Ipad case cheaper from China with FREE delivery for less money than it costs you to just post it literally to your next door neighbour? As an example, it costs around $1.30 to post 2 ipad cases from Shenzhen in China to anywhere in the USA, Australia, Canada or the UK however from say Sydney Australia to Sydney Australia costs $7.30? Why? The reason is most countries including the USA, Australia, Canada and the UK have done a deal with second and third world countries including China... Continue Reading

How the popular eBay scam works

Most of the scams we see today are old hat, like the bank manager in Nigeria who has the spare 1 million lying around and suggests your bank is the safest place. As soon as we see these scams the BS meter in our head goes full deflection however there is one popular eBay / e-commerce scam that is still getting a lot of people who should and do know better. Recently I was talking to one of my consulting clients who for the sake of embarrassment I will call ‘Bob’ and this eBay scam had worked on his eBay business.  Bob is... Continue Reading

Here is the problem.  eBay’s new search engine “Cassini” looks at not just the title like eBay’s old “Voyager” search engine, but now looks at the title, item specifics, short description (where your HTML is) and the long description (all of your HTML). Cassini works like Google, it measures the ratio of how many times the keywords... Continue Reading
